Back from Vegas

Wednesday, July 13, 2005

I am back from Las Vegas. I had lots of fun, but the 115 degree heat was just ridiculous. We were on life support the entire time, running from the air conditioned car into the air conditioned house.

I ended up setting my grandparents up with an iBook after I found out the logic board was fried on the iMac I originally planed on using. I also got them an iSight so we can keep in touch via iChat AV video chatting. It was really interesting trying to teach them how to use Mac OS X, it really made me realize how much computer stuff I just accept but does not really make any sense.

After I got their computer stuff going we went over to Bryce Canyon National Park for a few days. The landscape was mesmerizing and I had tons of fun taking photos as I hiked all around the canyon.

UPDATE: You can download highress desktop-sized versions of the two photos above here.

I second that emotion. I especially like the cowboy image.

Great photos - wish there were more! I just picked up a Canon S500 the other day. I’m hoping to get the same stellar results that you have.

"it really made me realize how much computer stuff I just accept but does not really make any sense."

Can you give us a example?
Which computer stuff in particular?

Nice pictures! (;

I was so jealous when you first mentioned your trip to Vegas. It's where I was born and raised and I miss it...some days. Other days, I'm just glad to have survived it.

I hope you had a fabulous time though!

Great views you caught there... sigh... I miss photography just for the sake of it :(

Wish I had a chance to see Las Vegas. May be I should put that in my itinerary next time I visit US.

Keep on posting, Mike!

That top photo at the grand canyon is STUNNING... looks like I need to check out the SD 50 now :)

I have to ask - was that done on automatic, or did you manually set the settings for that picture?

I pretty much take all my photos in automatic mode with the flash turned off. Also I almost always enhance my photos in Photoshop. That top photo is no acceptation.

Hi Mike Matas! It's delightful to see someone so young with talent. I hope you have someone close who can provide the encouragement and support that will give you the freedom to explore your gift, not only in photography but also in design as well. Great to hear that Apple have seen that spark and have you now working for them. Congratulations!
