New Blog Design
Wednesday, April 20, 2005

Welcome to my new blog. I have redesigned the whole site in two new themes, indoors and outdoors. You can select the theme you like best using the theme switcher on the right.
For the indoors theme, I drew the wood desktop using Adobe Photoshop. For the outdoors theme, I took a photo of a soccer field at the near by Magnuson Park.
I also put together two desktop photos to go along with each themes. You can download them here.
Hope everyone enjoys the new look.
UPDATE: The outdoors theme is not supported in Internet Explorer, so if you are using IE the theme switcher will not show up.

JESUS CHRIST!
I'm sorry..
THIS LOOKS HOT!!!
Wow, I like the fading grass effect for the bottom of the outdoors theme. That's really unique.
Yeah - all I can say is holy shit, you done good.
Hum, it seems that each time I click a link, I get the wood theme back. As I prefer the outdoor one, I suggest you to put a cookie or something to remember the theme we've chosen.
Congrats for this 2 new themes, there are amazing !
Very well done, Michael!
I love the sod IE approach with the grassy theme. :)
Only problem is that people that are subscribing via RSS (me for example) don't get to see this cool theme. I've thought about re-themeing my own blog but it seems rather pointless seeing as most people subscribe nowadays. :( But it still looks rather awesome. I love the grass. :)
Wow. The grass theme is brilliant!
All I can saw is, "Wow!" Excellent job on the redesign. I especially love the outdoors theme!
looks great, great desktops. great job
the theme switcher does not appear in IE. maybe your aware of this already, but it works fine in firefox.
Well, this certainly warrants poking around and looking at your source code. :)
w00t! The grass theme is teh_hawt!
But it's a little slow to scroll, but hot damn, is it secksy.
Looks really nice Mike. You should be able to get IE support for the grass theme if you are willing to use the IE conditionals a bit (which it looks like you are already doing). I've had the grass thing on my own site for a few months working pretty well here: Bluetick Dig. Feel free to take a peek at the source.
The overlapping grass is super sweet brother.
The indoor theme is aight but severly overshadowed by the Sweet outdoor grass theme. As all have said, the bottom voerlay grass is a nice effect... and I'm sure I'll also be taking a peak at the source here. =P
By the way alexis... your Bluetick Dig site was pretty sweet too.

Very, very nice. Good job. But is it just me, or does your "content area" look like a big tombstone coming out of the ground. Kinda freaky... but I love it. Great job.
Great backgrounds, simple end elegent, thanks. I'm using the "Wood" background as my desktop - do you have it in 1680X1050 pixels (Cinema Display 20")? Greetings from Berlin, Georg
I like the outdoor theme. I'm not very fond of the indoor, it reminds me of the desert and I don't like the desert. But great job on both!
Very nice, I love the grass one. I also like the symbols on the theme switcher.
Well done.
I have a Powershot A95 (5MP), and I can't take pictures like that. Maybe I could improve them if I took the time to learn how to use Photoshop again.
awesome layout! great job!
hey mike, i've been a fan since your appearance on the screen savers on the former techtv.
i don't know about "fan", but i enjoy your work. heh.
just thought i'd drop by and tell you how awesome this layout is.
peace,
jay
I love the grass background. Beautiful.

Yo, where's the Powered by Blogger link?! ;)

Do you use any other programs besides Photoshop to design your blogs or do you just use CSS and html?
I designed it in Photoshop and my friend Scott coded it using CSS Edit and SubEthaEdit.
The CSS is very well done and I, too, love the faded bottom on the "outside" theme.
What's the databasing technology behind this blog? Why do you think it's important to have URL's be /blog/2005/04/new-blog-design.html as opposed to /blog/entry.php?id=123 ?
