Get Ready for Delicious Library 1.5

Friday, April 22, 2005

In addition to many other things, the past several months me and everyone else at Delicious Monster have been hard at work on Delicious Library 1.5. We are finally wrapping things up and we'll be releasing it along side Mac OS X Tiger on April 29th. We've been focusing on three major areas: support for Tiger, internationalization, and bug fixes.

Mac OS X Tiger is right around the corner and Delicious Library 1.5 has been optimized to run flawlessly on it. We've even added a few new features to take advantage of the many new, exciting Tiger technologies including Spotlight and Dashboard.

For people living outside of the United States or who speak languages other than English, you are going to love 1.5. It's been fully translated into five other languages and can now natively import items from around the world.

Delicious Library users have been really helpful, tracking down bugs and sending in reports. We have been taking these reports very seriously: reading each one, prioritizing them, and fixing the top issues one by one. With Delicious Library 1.5, we've fixed dozens and dozens of these bugs and have continued to improve performance.

Delicious Library 1.5 will be available on April 29th and will be a completely free upgrade. I think everyone is going to really love this release.

Hate to be a bit harsh here, but I sure hope that the Dashboard widget won't take that long to search for items...definitely not the speed I would expect.

The Dashboard widget looks awesome, great effective animation while searching for items. But, like the previous guy said, why does it take so long to search for an item? Since you mentioned 1.5 was taking advantage of Spotlight, shouldn't the search be nearly instantaneous?

Other than that, great work...

I don't think it will take that long. It's just to show what it does when it's searching. :)

Pretty. Ridiculously slow, plus I don't really see the point, but pretty.

Mike, what languages are supported in the new version? If you'd like Dutch, maybe it would be nice to have a chat...

Actually, I think this is kind of a cool concept that can lead to bigger things. Some people I know convert their DVDs to Divx and store them on large external drives. Imagine having a widget where you could search by title, company, genre, etc... and all you would have to do is click on the cover and load the movie.

If you had a Mini hooked-up to the TV this could be "media center" interface.

Awesome. Can't wait. However, I hope 1.5 is more responsive than the current version. Maybe I just need a new Mac ;-). Thanks for the free upgrade and the hard work put into it.

Looks absolutely amazing. I'd happily pay for the addition of a widget and Spotlight support, so I'm pleasantly surprised that this update will be free.

(PS: Hey Mike: I'm the Apple employee that accosted you while you were walking through the Apple booth at Macworld SF to gush about DL. Keep up the awesome work - and I LOVE the new blog design!)

Hate to be blunt. And I know this is the wrong place. But is this thing going to work this time around? It's been collecting dust on my computer cause every time I spend hours and hours adjusting my library, adding images... It tends to crash and loose all half of my data. When contacting help they either ignore me or never follow up my responses. Very frustrating.
