TED Conference Starts

Thursday, February 24, 2005

Today was the first day of my first ever TED conference. This conference is like no other. The speakers are some of the most intelligent and influential people in the world, but the other 1,000 attendees are just as impressive. I was sucked in by the fascinating talks given today some of my favorites from James Watson (discovered the structure of DNA), Brian Greene (Physicist and author of The Elegant Universe), Janine Benyus (author of Biomimicry), and James Surowiecki (author of The Wisdom of Crowds).

As I said, the attendees here are just as impressive and today I had the pleasure of talking with Pierre Omidyar (founder of eBay), Dean Kamen (creator of the Segway), and Allen Morgan (managing director of Mayfield venture capital) who said to me "my son is 18, I do not even want to know what you were on when you came up with the idea for Delicious Library". The day ended with an incredible party at the Monterey Aquarium and a magic show by Keith Barry. I am demoing Delicious Library on stage tomorrow morning so I have to go practice now.

Wow, that sounds like an amazing experience, isn't a ticket to TED several thousand dollars though? I hope your demo goes well!

Michael, It's just so great you are meeting all of these people!

Pretty soon, they'll be saying
"I met Michael Matas"

Good Luck Mike. Though I don't think you'll need it. Your product is awesome. I only got the demo right now but once I clean the couch I'm gonna buy it!

I sense an air of elitism brewing. :)
