New Bicycle

I went over to Greg's Greenlake Cycles yesterday and picked up a new Rocky Mountain Metro 30 bicycle. Last year, when the weather was nice, I enjoyed walking down to Zoka instead of driving since it was only a 20 min walk and a 2 min drive. The winters weather has been keeping me from walking lately and my new apartment is about twice as far from Zoka and it's a little too far to walk every day. Luckily I am right next to the Burke Gilman Trail and so is Zoka. Now that I have a bike and the weather is heating up I am going to start hopping on the trail and riding to Zoka.

Go mike! If you walk or bike to work, then you have your exercise needs taken care of automatically!
I biked to school one day. It just goes to show that I am completely out of shape because I fell asleep in class.

Are there really girls and boys bikes? Either way this one rides great. I get my house to Zoka in 15 min.
There is a difference between boy and girl bikes. Bikes that are for girls have an angled top bar.
Mike, Are you trying to tell us something?
Maybe this is your way of coming out of the delicious-closet?
I was with Mike when he bought the bike, and I'm a guy, and I bought the same model.
Not that it would matter anyway, but our bikes do not have the angled top bar as pictured above.

sometimes bike companies slant the top tube of even men's bikes if the frame is of a particularly small size, i.e. geared towards smaller folks.
i can't speak to how tall mike is, but if it's a small frame it wouldn't surprise me if the tube is angled down.
in alot of cases, the whole sloping tube thing for chicks went out along time ago with the exception of cruisers and the like and guys and girls bikes look relatively the same now.
or maybe you all just enjoy giving mike a hard time.

Mike, you should be getting a Porsche-designed bike. This one seems to cheap for you.
I sold bikes one summer and my brother is a mechanic for a pro cycling team; we can assure you all that the image above is most certainly not a "girls" bike. On a traditional girls bike, the top tube (the one you're thinking of as parallel to the ground on a boy's bike) is much more sloped and attaches to the seat tube (running between the seat and the pedals) only a few inches above the bottom bracket where the cranks and pedals are attached.
That being said, very few "girls" bikes are sold any more and they're nearly all at the very low price point (WalMart, Target, etc.). Rocky Mountain is a pretty high-end brand (and very good by the way), so I doubt you'd be able to find a girls bike in their product line.

I just got one of these - last years model on sale - it is awsome! (I actually found this blog doing a search on the bike).
As for those commenting about the sloping frame - it is the ST3 Geometry which according to Rocky Mountain "means increased frame stiffness and strength... The frame layout creates a compact front end, giving increased agility in tight turning singletrack while providing increased stiffness for greater control in all conditions"
It is fast on the street because of the thin rims and tires but the rims are Alex DH 19 which are really strong and I just got back from pushing it fast on a wooded trail! Just don't hop over any logs as it is not made for that.
